Learn About Birt's Bistro
Birt’s Bistro is a restaurant on the Benevilla main campus in Surprise, whose social enterprise model helps to support the charitable work that Benevilla does in our community. Every time you visit Birt’s Bistro for a delicious freshly prepared meal, buy $1 used book at the bookstore, enjoy weekly events featuring amazing local talent, or even cater an event, you are giving back to Benevilla programs and services.
Birt’s Bistro supports the Benevilla mission in many ways. A Benevilla C.A.R.E.S. Resource Specialists is available on site, free of charge, for our neighbors and friends needing information about community resources. Birt’s Bistro offers a Group Supported Employment program which trains and employs members from our adults with disabilities in the Helping Partners Life Enrichment Program in various capacities allowing them to receive a weekly paycheck.
Birt and Louisa Kellam moved to Sun City West in January 1990 and have been supporters of Interfaith since 1991. They decided to sponsor Birt’s Bistro because they believe the new Interfaith project will have a positive effect on the community.
Birt retired as Corporate Vice President of A. G. Edwards, Inc. a national investment firm headquartered in St. Louis. Louisa played violin with the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and for touring music stars and ballet companies.
Birt is currently a Trustee of the Arizona State University Foundation as well as a member of the Sun Health Board of Directors. Louisa now teaches English to foreign-language speaking adults and serves on the Board of the West Valley Symphony.
